HEX to Colortone Converter helps you find the closest named color matches based on your input HEX code. This tool uses the CIEDE2000 color difference formula to calculate perceptually accurate matches from an open, public-domain color name database.
Hex values are the most popular way of representing colors in digital design. This tool converts your hex code into meaningful color names with accuracy ratings (Delta E values).
Unlike static lookup tables, this converter uses advanced color science to find the most visually similar colors from a database of ~200 standard named colors.
What can you do with HEX to Colortone Converter?
- Convert any HEX color to the closest named color matches with Delta E accuracy ratings.
- See multiple color options sorted by perceptual similarity, not just the single closest match.
- Use the interactive color picker to explore colors visually.
- Works well on Windows, MAC, Linux, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari.
About Delta E (ΔE)
Delta E measures the perceived difference between two colors. Lower values mean closer matches:
- ΔE < 1: Exact match - indistinguishable to most people
- ΔE 1-2: Excellent - very close match
- ΔE 2-5: Very good - slight difference noticeable to trained eye
- ΔE 5-10: Good - noticeable difference
- ΔE > 10: Approximate - visible difference
